OTUWHARE MARAE |
Firstly thank you so much to our wonderful parents Candice, Anna, Jodi, Bruce, & Nanny Lily who helped transport our kids to/from camp. Without your support it simply would not have happened. In the end however we had to hire a bus as we were still short of transport, this was not planned for in our camp budget so later on throughout the year we plan to hold a couple of fundraisers (such as selling donuts) to cover the cost. Other than that everything else went to plan (even a couple of days of light rain couldn't dampen our spirits) and the kids were kept busy at the River, Sea and Marae with a smorgasbord of activities such as fishing, slug guns, bombing, bonfires , kayaking, swimming, playing cards, touch rugby, preparing a hangi, talent quest, having a disco and much more. I'm sure your child has come home and told you all about their wonderful time away!

Thank you so much to those of you who supported our camp by way of food donations. Each and everyone of us we so well fed, no one went to bed hungry. The meals were fantastic and we are so grateful to all our wonderful Turanganui parents especially Koka Tarn Keelan who was absolutely amazing, she had the kitchen humming.

Getting washed up by the waves - The kids could have done this for hours |
One of my highlights from camp was actually having the time to sit, chat, watch, interact and really get to know your child. I truly felt that relationships with not only me but their peers & other teachers were developed and strengthen. Overall we all felt the bond of the whole syndicate was strong, a positive aspect from taking everyone together which logistically was a great feat. Again, thank you to Koka Ana & her whanau for their Manaakitanga and making this camp the success that it was.

Teachers have a great time at camp too! |
Congratulations to Lil Dre Waru who was Room 24's first recipient for Student of the week. This is a very prestigious award and only a small number of students throughout the school are awarded it.
Lil Dre was outstanding on camp and has made a great start at GIS INT. Read below..
Lil Dre Waru & Sonny Preston - Turanganui Year 7's awarded Student of the Week
‘Example is not the main thing in influencing others, it’s the only thing’
Lil’ Dre is a quiet young man whose actions speak louder than his words. He leads by example and gets on with what needs to be done without seeking praise or acknowledgement from others. At camp he stood out above the rest for being a ‘mahi machine’ where he quietly worked away behind the scenes to make sure those at the front were well looked after.
He is beginning to displays many qualities of a fine leader and is someone that others respect because of his manner to lead by example. We look forward to seeing him develop this year as we continue to ‘Grow Great people’ at GIS INT
Tu Rangatira, E Tu Lil’ Dre
Also congratulations to Carlos Hihi & Shakyra Telfer who were this weeks certificate recipients at Year 7 assembly. Carlos is an outstanding sportsman who has been active in taking up challenges at GIS INT while Shakyra was another standout at camp by going the extra mile by being super helpful.
